The Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) has announced the resignation of its founding Chief Executive Officer, Tilahun Esmael Kassahun, with its Board of Directors appointing Yodit Kassa as his successor.
ESX did not disclose the reason for Tilahun’s resignation.
In a separate statement following the announcement, Tilahun said the time had come for him to “begin a new chapter and pass the baton,” without providing details about his next move.

Tilahun said he spent four and a half years at ESX, initially leading the Project Office established in partnership with Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) and FSD Africa before later serving as the exchange’s founding CEO.
Yodit has been with ESX since its project phase. She previously served as Chief Business Officer before becoming Chief Operating Officer.
Tilahun said he had worked closely with Yodit throughout his time at ESX and expressed confidence in her appointment.
According to the exchange, Yodit worked on ESX’s operations, market development and strategy before her appointment as CEO.
As chief executive, she will oversee plans to expand the issuer base and market participation, introduce additional products and market segments, and strengthen market infrastructure.
