The slowly trending cases of COVID-19 infection have changed courses and the spread has now entered to local transmission stages.
According to health experts, Addis Ababa has entered into the community transmission
stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. Current updates suggest that there are 385 total confirmed cases with the majority being from the capital city.
In early March, the first case was reported as imported by Japanese national. Since then until two weeks ago, the transmission of the virus was from contacts with persons who have contracted COVID-19 and from close contacts. Later the transmission started to cluster before it reaches to local transmission stage where people who neither have travel histories nor direct contacts with persons with the virus.
While public hearings on whether national election could be held on or not amid the growing Covid-19 cases, the Ministry of Health has alarmed that the virus is likely to spread more in the coming days as it has been witnessed in recent days. Lia Tadesse, Minister of Health earlier said that the slowly growing patterns of the infection have quickly shifted. It is to be recalled that double digits figures have become common and on single day this week, 35 cases have been confirmed while fatalities remain at five deaths for weeks. With the enhanced capacity of testing that has expanded to some 70,000, more cases are adamantly expected.
