Kenyan Marsabit County officials announced that more than 14 thousand Ethiopians migrated from Moyale, a border town between Ethiopia and Kenya after the conflict along the border started last week.
Reports show that in the aftermath of the chaos a dozen people are feared dead as heavy gunfire and artillery shelling have continued on the Ethiopian border side.
While addressing the media in Nairobi on Sunday, October 25, 2026, the elected and aspiring leaders under, the leadership of Moyale Member of Parliament Guyo Waqo Jaldesa and Saku MP Dido Ali Rasso, asked Kenyan President William Ruto to intervene and restore peace.
Rasso was quoted by Nation Kenya as saying, “We are deeply concerned about the ongoing conflict on the Ethiopian side of the border in Moyale.” “The situation is deeply concerning and we hope for a swift, peaceful end to the hostility,” he added.
“The conflict has resulted in a large influx of civilians seeking refuge in Kenya, severely restraining local infrastructure and resourced,” Rasso said.
Kenya Red Cross has appealed for additional humanitarian assistance as displaced families face increasingly difficult living conditions.
Moyale is a split border town in Ethiopia administered as two separate woredas or districts across Oromia and Somali regional states.
