Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh, alongside Nigerian business tycoon Aliko Dangote, laid the foundation stone today, September 24, 2026, for a refined petroleum products pipeline connecting Damerjog in Djibouti to Dewele in Ethiopia.
Developed through a joint partnership between Ethiopian Investment Holdings and the Dangote Group, the cross-border infrastructure project will feature dedicated fuel storage terminals at both locations to optimize energy transport across the corridor.
“This landmark infrastructure will reduce logistics costs and delays, strengthen energy security, and enhance the efficiency and resilience of the Ethiopia–Djibouti corridor,” Abiy said in his X post.
“More than a pipeline, this is an investment in future growth, regional integration and a more secure shared economic future—with African investment at its center,” Abiy added.
President Guelleh, on his part, emphasized that the initiative further solidifies Djibouti’s standing as a central energy and logistics platform for the region. While the joint initiative highlights growing intra-African investment, officials have not yet disclosed the project’s overall cost, capacity, or estimated construction timeline.
