During the 2026 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ethiopia called for continued “constructive” engagement from both official and private creditors.
Finance Minister Ahmed Shide participated in the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable on the sidelines of the meetings. He emphasized the need for “sustained support” from international financial institutions to facilitate ongoing economic reforms and recovery. Simultaneously, Ethiopian officials held discussions regarding infrastructure financing with the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).
In Washington, D.C., the delegation met with Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, CEO of the SFD. The bilateral talks focused on potential financing for major infrastructure projects, specifically the proposed Bishoftu International Airport and the expansion of road networks intended to improve regional integration.
Al-Marshad, for his part, reaffirmed the SFD’s partnership with Ethiopia, expressing “readiness to further strengthen cooperation in support of the country’s key development initiatives,” according to a statement by the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance.
