At least 102 people are reported dead following a devastating landslide that struck the Mazo Doisa Kebele in the Gacho Baba Woreda of Ethiopia’s Gamo Zone. Regional authorities have confirmed that the bodies of 52 victims have been recovered so far as search and rescue operations continue in the affected highland areas.
Beyond the confirmed fatalities, the landslide has resulted in significant displacement, leaving numerous households without shelter and destroying local infrastructure.
Local government officials have expressed deep concern over the scale of the destruction. In response to the ongoing risk of further landslides, authorities are urging residents in high-risk zones to relocate to safer grounds. Efforts are now focused on providing immediate humanitarian assistance to the displaced survivors and coordinating with regional disaster prevention bureaus to manage the aftermath of the tragedy.
