Abyssinian Flight Services (AFS) has announced the completion of its first tourist charter flight to the newly opened Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The service, launched this week, is specifically targeting members of the Ethiopian–American diaspora as part of a broader tourism initiative.
In a press release, the company said:
“We are honored to be the first Ethiopian charter airline to bring tourists to this unifying landmark — a true pride of the nation.”

As of September 22, 2025, the GERD has officially opened to public visits. Tours are being organized in groups of up to 50 visitors, and registration is managed through Ethiopian Airlines.
