U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he averted a potential war between Ethiopia and Egypt, citing years of disagreement over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. He made this claim during his speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, September 23.
Trump included the “potential war between Egypt and Ethiopia” among six other conflicts he claimed to have ended during the first seven months of his second term.
“In a period of just seven months, I have ended seven ‘unendable’ wars,” Trump remarked. “They said they were ‘unendable.’ ‘You’re never going to get them solved.’ Some were going for 31 years, two of them. One was 36 years, and one was 28 years,” Trump said.
In addition to the one between Egypt and Ethiopia, the other conflicts he claimed to have averted or ended were between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, Pakistan and India, as well as Israel and Iran.

In his remarks, the president also mocked the United Nations, stating, “It is too bad I had to do these things instead of the United Nations doing them.”
Foreign policy experts and fact-checking organizations have criticized president Trump’s speech and challenged his claims.
