Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has appointed Eyob Tekalign (PhD), former state minister of Finance, as the new Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, replacing the recently resigned Mamo Esmelealem Mihretu, as of today, September 19, 2025. Eyob has become the 11th Governor of the National Bank.
Eyob earned his PhD in Political Economy from the University of Maryland and his master’s in International Policy and International Business from The George Washington University in the United States. Eyob also served as head of the National Planning Commission.
Meanwhile, Enatalem Meles, who was the head of the Addis Ababa Communication Bureau and Addis Media Network or Mass Media Agency, has been appointed as Minister of Government Communication Services.
