Ethiopia announced a revised energy prices’ list bringing the price of gasoil to over 100 Birr effective January 7.
The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration announced an 11.5% increase in gasoil prices, while diesel and kerosene prices saw a 10% hike, reaching 98.98 birr per liter.
The latest retail fuel price adjustments this time around has not been pegged to any external cause such as rise for the strategic product in the international market, but it came owing to Ethiopia’s commitment under a recent deal with IMF.

The Ministry has urged fuel distributors and consumers to comply with the updated prices and warned against any attempts at price manipulation or hoarding. The government continues to monitor the fuel supply chain to ensure stability in the market.
