Seismic activity particularly in Afar regional state has continued, one of the highest magnitudes (5.2 on the rector scale) recorded in the last month of January.
Evacuations have been underway in areas experiencing ongoing tremors, areas prone to rockfalls, locations near sites emission sites since January 2, and around a major dam.
The UN and Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) partners are assisting the government-led response by providing technical expertise and humanitarian aid, although significant gaps remain. Government-led zonal Incident Command Posts (ICPs) have been established in Awash and Metehara areas, with OCHA co-chairing to ensure streamlined coordination.
