On January 11, 2025, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held an official visit to Addis Ababa.
In a joint statement, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud noted that they normalized their relations to full diplomatic status, after a yearlong tension between the two neighbors that threatened further instability in the Horn of Africa.
The visit of the Somali leader came after the December 12, 2024 deal the leaders of the two countries made in Ankara via Turkiye mediation.
