Ethiopia is vying for membership in the 15-member African Union Peace and Security Council. Ethiopia unveiled its candidacy for the position during an event at the Skylight hotel in the capital Addis Ababa.
The Peace and Security Council (PSC) is the standing decision-making organ of the AU for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.
The term of the existing AU-PSC members will expire in March next year. The outgoing members are Egypt, Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, The Gambia, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Uganda.
