United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres attended the reopening ceremony of the iconic Africa Hall on October 21, located at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa premises in Addis Ababa. The venue holds great historical significance as it hosted the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the predecessor to the African Union, in 1963.
The Africa Hall underwent a major renovation funded by the UN at a cost of 53 million USD. The restoration aimed to preserve the hall’s historical and cultural significance.
The ceremony was attended by several high-profile leaders, including Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, African Union Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, and UN Secretary General Guterres.
