The Ethiopian government has approved salary increases for civil servants. Mekuriya Haile (PhD), the Civil Service Commissioner, announced that the new wage adjustments would take effect immediately, with payments beginning this month.
Mekuriya noted that a significant portion of the national budget has been allocated to support these increases, acknowledging the strain it may place on the country’s financial resources. He said that while the raises are particularly beneficial for lower-income workers, they are made within the limits of the government’s fiscal capabilities.
The approved salary increments range up to 25.4% across all nine steps of the civil service salary grading system.
