The third round of mediation talks between Ethiopia and Somalia, originally scheduled for September 17, 2024, in Ankara, has been postponed indefinitely. Turkey, which has been actively mediating the dispute, announced the delay without setting a new date for future discussions.
Turkey previously hosted two rounds of discussions in July and August 2024, with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan mediating between Ethiopian Foreign Minister Taye Atske-Selassie and Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi. Despite initial efforts, the talks ended without a breakthrough.
While the third round has been postponed, Turkey plans to hold separate meetings with each country in an attempt to find common ground before moving forward with broader negotiations.
