Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has been re-elected for a fourth term with 99.18 percent of the vote. Kagame, who previously won over 93 percent in the last three elections, played a key role in ending the 1994 Rwanda genocide.
The Rwandan electoral commission banned at least three presidential aspirants from contesting in the election.
Kagame, 66, won the 2017 election with 98.63 percent of the vote, higher than the 93 percent he got in 2010 and the 95 percent in 2003. Democratic Green Party leader Frank Habineza received 0.5 percent of the vote, and independent Philippe Mpayimana got 0.32 percent.
