Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has revealed that Ethiopia is negotiating with the IMF and World Bank for USD 10.5 billion in financial assistance. In an address to parliament, he stated that ongoing discussions with these institutions may secure the funding.
Ethiopia, facing economic challenges including inflation, foreign currency shortages, and the aftermath of war in the Tigray region, has been in extended talks with the IMF to obtain a support program.
Abiy mentioned that several proposals have been accepted, and upon successful conclusion and approval of the reform, Ethiopia will receive the USD 10.5 billion over the coming years. This funding is expected to support Ethiopia’s economic reform efforts.
