The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) expressed grave concern on June 14, 2024, regarding the renewed violence, civilian casualties, and displacements in the border regions of Afar and Somali. Since June 6, 2024, escalating tensions have resulted in injuries and property damage.
The conflict between the Afar and Issa-Somali communities has historical roots, centered on disputes over pastoral resources like land and water.
