In a significant move, Ethiopian Airlines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing to purchase up to twenty B777-9 aircraft, marking Africa’s largest-ever order valued at USD 11 billion.
This milestone signals Ethiopian Airlines’ entry into the widebody aircraft market, with each new aircraft boasting over 400 seats, including 50 business class and the rest economy class.
These state-of-the-art aircraft, equipped with cutting-edge technology, promise a remarkable 10 percent increase in fuel efficiency.
The MoU was officially signed by Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, and Brad McMuller, VP of Boeing, cementing the commitment between the two parties.
Ethiopian Airlines anticipates receiving three aircraft by 2027, followed by another three in 2029, with the remaining deliveries scheduled post-2030.
