The Ministry of Education (MoE) announced on the second week of October 2023 that among the total of over 845,000 students who had taken 2022/23 Ethiopian School Leaving Certificate Examination (ESLCE), only 3.2 percent of them have managed to score a passing mark.

The Ministry made public that only 27,267 students from a total of 1,328 schools have scored 50 percent and above.

The passing rate was found to be ‘shocking’- even less than that of last year, which was 3.21 percent.
